The holy week is happening this week which means Easter is just around the corner. Though Easter means the resurrection of Jesus Christ for most of us Filipinos, Easter means fun time for kids. When kids think about Easter, they immediately think about egg hunting and other fun activities they usually do with the family.
There used to be a lot of egg hunting events in our city. Hotels and establishments, especially those with gardens used to facilitate egg hunting events coupled with several other activities like face painting, balloon twisting, games, watching a magician or clown, taking pictures with a mascot etc. for a minimal fee. Kids really love those activities. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, these mass drawing events are currently not allowed. This is the 2nd year that we are celebrating Easter in the comfort of our own homes.
That being said, we can always facilitate fun Easter activities at home. Being the mom that I am, I try to make sure my daughter enjoys and makes wonderful childhood memories specifically during these 4 big events: Christmas, New Year, Easter and her birthday. I try to make sure there are fun activities to look forward to during this events no matter how simple they can be.
I was extremely busy Easter last year but I made sure to prepare an egg hunting event complete with prices for the kids. My mom runs a boarding house so within our compound, there were a lot of kids and I decided to include them in the egg hunting event. The kid with the most eggs found wins the best price. The goodie bags I prepared had assorted goodies for the kids like candies, jellies, cookies, stickers and mini toys. This year though, my daughter will be having egg hunting only with her favorite playmate and bff since the kids in our compound already went back home to their parents' provinces due to the prolonged community quarantine in our city so earning money is a bit more challenging.
Here are my top picks for fun activities this Easter. You can do all of them in a day or you can spread out these activities during the week.
Here's my list:

1. Easter egg hunting. Nothing beats egg hunting during Easter because we are always reminded of the Easter bunny. It's fun and easy to do. You can make your own eggs or you can buy surprise eggs and hide them around the house or garden, if you have one. Let your lid find the eggs and maybe you can set a price or gift for a certain egg.
2. Scavenger hunt. If you're not a fan of eggs, this is a good alternative to egg hunting. You can also do this partnered with egg hunting or you can do each on different days during the week. The good thing about scavenger hunt is that you get to keep multiple items during the hunt instead of the eggs.

3. Egg collages. If you or your kids are into arts and crafts, this is a fun activity to do. Give your child a cut out of a big egg along with other materials like glue or paste, small flower cut outs or any other cut out you want. If you don't have time to prepare the materials, you can buy ready made cut outs used for scrap booking or you can buy designed tapes and cut them out for the egg. You can also put pictures or anything really. Allow your kids to be creative. You can also introduce the materials little by little like glitters, for example.

4. DIY Easter egg painting. There are some simulation eggs you can buy online. Some can be painted with art paint while some can be painted with colored markers. Choose which one is suited for you and your kid. If you don't like cleaning paint messes, then choose the latter. You can also do this the traditional way where you use hard boiled eggs. This is another activity where you can allow your kids to be creative. Feel free to use other materials to decorate the egg as well.

5. Baking. Kids usually love baking. You can bake cookies with them and shape them in egg or bunny forms. Once it's done, allow them to be creative and decorate it with them. Once it's ready, sit down and have it as a snack while you bond with them. I'm sure your kids will appreciate this moment with you.

6. Telling or reading Easter stories. This is a good way to bond with your kid especially before bed time. This could let them look forward to celebrating Easter with the family. I used to read stories to my daughter every night when she was younger but now, my husband sometimes tells stories (his own version of the tale) to our daughter until she falls asleep. You can create your own stories or you can read them more traditional ones like the Velveteen Rabbit, How Rabbit got long ears or the Easter Crocodile. You can click on this link for some Easter inspired stories you can tell your children for free. The best story we can share though in my opinion especially if you're Christian is the story of Christ's sacrifices and resurrection. The real reason why we celebrate Easter.
However you choose to celebrate Easter with your kids and family, don't forget the real meaning of Easter and make sure your kids know about this reason. These are just some Easter activities I would personally do with my kids. If you have other Easter activities you would love to do with your kids, share them in the comment section down below.
